Welcome to the first ever Strongroom Self Storage blog post,

Over the coming months and years we hope to provide you with interesting articles, funny stories, useful tips as well as anything else that we think you may find interesting!

Strongroom has now been providing excellent storage solutions for over 10 years in the south of England, and in that time we have stored many weird and wonderful items for our customers.

For our first blog we have put together this list of tips to ensure that you can maximise the storage space that you require!

1- Stack to the ceiling

Our internal storage spaces normally are normally at least 8ft high, so to maximise your space ensure that you stack boxes as high as you can. Always put the heavy boxes at the bottom and try to make sure that as you go up the boxes get smaller where possible to make sure they don`t topple over! Don`t forget to use the tops of wardrobes or tall units for putting items on as well! Also remember to not put any items that you may need to get at the bottom of a pile!

2- Create new uses for items

Try to be inventive when filling your storage unit. When you have items such as chests of drawers, wardrobes or even fridges make sure that you utilise the inside of these items as well as just putting items around them. Small items such as cd`s/dvd`s etc. can be put in drawers or units and save valuable storage space. If you have nice paintings then wrapping them in bubble wrap then placing inside a wardrobe provides even better protection for your goods. Remember though that if using the inside of a fridge or freezer to have the door propped open to allow air to circulate.

3- Be strategic about placement

Create a plan about what you are storing and make sure that any items you will need quick access to are not put right at the back of the unit! When putting items in some people find it helpful to draw a quick map which will allow you to quickly locate what you are looking for. Also put labels on boxes and make sure the labels are not covered.

4- Create an isle

In larger units where you may be making frequent visits to and from the site, ensure that there is an adequate walk way down the middle of the unit to give you access to all your goods. Try and keep a few gaps between items to allow air to circulate fully around the unit.

5- Plan Ahead

Whether you will be returning over and over again, or just putting items in deep storage until you come to vacate make sure that when putting goods away that you plan for the next time you arrive. Keep small items like a tool box or torch close to the entrance, this will help when having to take legs of units searching into the darker corners. If you have stacked items to the ceiling maybe keep a small folding stool close by to make those high items easier to reach.

We hope that this first post has been informative and hopefully you have found some useful tips.
