Storage in the Movies

30th June 2017

Self Storage is definitely an industry on the rise and you will now find more and more people who have had to use facilities such as Strongroom.

There are many different reasons why people would need to use storage, from decluttering your home, moving house or running a business the list of why people need to use us is far and wide ranging. You will most probably notice as you drive up and down the country that storage facilities are popping up everywhere, however you may not have noticed that they have also been popping up on the silver screen just as quickly! Here we are taking a look at a few of our favourite moments that self storage has appeared in the movies –

1 – Silence of the Lambs

One of the most famous films of all times and telling the story of Dr Hannibal Lector (Sir Anthony Hopkins) “assisting” a young FBI officer (Jodie Foster) to apprehend a serial killer. The scene that revolves around the Your Self storage facility is extremely creepy (not at all like a normal facility) but does enable Clarice Starling to find clues to help trap the killer!

2- Breaking Bad

OK , I know I said the movies, however I like breaking Bad so I`ve included it here! Most people now know the story of Walter White who goes from high school chemistry teacher into a big player in the drugs world. Self storage plays a part here as when Walters cash pile gets too big to handle, they do what anyone else would do when looking for more room, they rent a self storage unit. There is a pretty iconic scene in season 5 of Walter stood inside a unit staring at an extremely impressive pile of cash!

3 – Skyfall

This is a bit more of a blink and you`ll miss it moment, but it does involve one of the most famous film characters and a pretty awesome Aston Martin DB5! When you have a car as impressive as that and you are a super spy with a licence to kill, you`re not going to leave your pride and joy anywhere else other than a super secure storage unit!

4 – Lethal Weapon 2

Lethal Weapon is a brilliant series of films, the buddy cop movie featuring Murtagh and Riggs featuring action and laughs in equal measure, have even now got its own TV series (which I have to admit despite reservations at first is really quite good!). In Lethal Weapon 2 its actually the storage unit itself that comes good to save the day, and by save the day I mean dropping a big container on the baddie! Obviously not all the health and safety measures were followed by the company that day, but seeing as they got the baddie I`m sure they`re not too worried!

5 – M

One here for our older generation! Made in 1931 (yes that’s right, self storage was even around back then)! A classic serial killer movie set in Germany which towards the end of the film sees the evil killer eventually caught hiding is a, yes you guessed it, a storage unit!

6- Storage 24

Bet you haven`t seen this one! A British horror movie from Noel Clarke, who has made some pretty impressive movies in his time. Released in 2013 and took an impressive $72 after being shown in just one cinema for one day. The story revolves around a group of people locked in a storage facility with an extremely unwelcome guest hunting them down!

There are plenty other horror movies based in and around storage facilities, thankfully though all the Storage sites I have ever visited don`t contain any crazy killers or monsters!

I`m sure that in the coming years you will see more and more Storage facilities appear on both the big and little screen. I`d like to say that our Storage facilities at Strongroom are as exciting as they appear in the movies, however it`s not too be! We pride ourselves on being professional and secure and would definitely notice if drug dealers were stashing cash or killers hiding their victims!! And if there were ghosts or monsters walking our corridors at night then we`ve got the Ghostbusters on speed dial!!!
